I subbed for 7 years until finally, 3 weeks into the 2014 school year, I got hired as a 3rd grade teacher!
Update: 2015 school year as a PERMANENT teacher and in the 4th grade :)
I love to do crafts, read, listen to music, and go camping. One of my favorite things to do is go crabbing!
I love to travel! I've been to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Canada, Germany, and more!

I love to travel too, always looking for company. :) Another meet up is due soon. :)

Yes, we need another meet up!
ReplyDeleteYou've been subbing for 5 years and still do not have a classroom? Are you located in an area that is highly competitive and/or not growing? Your blog is well designed. How is it helping you as part of your portfolio? I've stated subbing at the beginning of this school year and am looking for a classroom of my own too--but I hope I don't have to wait too long!
ReplyDeleteThe area I am is mostly Spanish speaking and I'm not fluent enough. Also times are tough and a lot of my friends have been cut from their jobs and so many districts are cutting back.
DeleteThank you, my friend Tessa designed my new makeover.
I plan on using this as a piece of my portfolio, if they ask, to show the stuff I create and what I'm capable of.
I hope you don't have to wait too long either!
I too have been substitute teaching for 9 years and am looking for a teaching position. I am looking in IL and NC. I love your blog! Hope you find a classroom position soon too.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I think I've met myself! I have also been subbing for a long time, 6 years steadily, and 3 years on and off before that. I've been looking for a permanent teaching position for forever. I live in a very competitive district (NYC) but I have a great circuit of schools that I go to all the time. I am early childhood certified as well as certified in gifted education, and I am currently studying for special ed certification. I also like to read, do crafts (especially knitting), listen to music, and camp, and I love to travel. My daughter and I went to Italy this summer on her first big travel experience (but not my first big travel experience) and we have the travel bug & are planning more trips. I am looking forward to looking at your site, and contributing to it as well. Glad to have found you!
ReplyDeleteHi! If you ever get to travel to England, give me a shout! Supply teaching is something I write about every day, and would love to swap stories with you...
ReplyDeleteHi Tanja thank you for sharing your substitute teacher resources and experience. I'm at the other end of my teaching career compared to you. I have returned to Australia after 14 years teaching in International schools and prior to that I was a classroom teacher in Australia where at various times I taught Years 4 to 10. I started substitute teaching about 18 months ago for the first time in my life and am finding it has some different challenges (and rewards) to regular classroom teaching. ReplyDeleteHey Tanja, congrats on the 4th grade teaching job! Wahoo!
